Top Ten Tuesday~ Top Ten Characters Who...

Top 10 Tuesday is a weekly bookish feature hosted by The Broke and The Bookish.

This weeks Top 10 list is: Top Ten Characters Who... (i picked) You Love To Hate

Okay- I love a good villain! I have so many favorites that this was really hard. I love all of these great villains and if you have not read this books- you need to get on that! I decided to keep it down to five instead of ten this week.

#5. Lord Ido from Eon By Alison Goodman

He is definitely one of my favorite villains of all time. He is crazy, yet charming. He is strong and powerful. You want to know just how much he is capable of doing!

#4. Professor Snape from The Harry Potter Series By JK Rowling

Is he good or bad?? He is really looking out for Harry or is he looking out for Voldemort?? Why is always caught up in all the drama?? He must be bad, right? If you read until the end, you know, and it is AMAZING!!! One of my favorite characters of all time- by far! He is so complex and mysterious. LOVE Snape!

It was very hard to only pick one villain from this series, there are so many! But, Joffrey takes the cake. He is so evil! He is so young and innocent but as the series continues you know exactly why I chose him.

#2. Clancy from The Darkest Minds Trilogy

I love Clancy from the The Darkest Minds. He is such a complex character with so much depth. He is crazy and awful but you still have sympathy for him.

Queen Levana is such a mysterious and unique character. She is so evil and yet so captivating. You just want to know what has driven her to be the way she is!  I have yet to read Fairest but I plan to very, very soon! I will be re-reading the entire series before Winter comes out in November!

Who are some of your favorite characters that you love to hate??

Thanks for visiting! Happy Reading!!

Top 10 All Time Favorite Authors

Top 10 Tuesday is a weekly bookish feature hosted by The Broke and The Bookish.

This weeks Top 10 list is: Top Ten All Time Favorite Authors

Sorry this post is a little late! I have been so busy this week decluttering and cleaning my house. I am following a new organizing book called The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo.  Review will be coming soon! Anyways, back to my top ten- let's get started!!

10. Alexandra Bracken- I definitely have a love/hate relationship with The Darkest Minds series. It is not one of my favorites series but it is one that I think about a lot. I absolutely love, love her writing style. Is it perfect? No. But she is so creative and she creates such wonderful, captivating characters that just draw you into the story even if the the world-building is lacking or something doesn't make the best sense. She has a way of creating suspense and anticipation in her novels. Highly recommend giving her a try. She has a new book coming out this fall and I will definitely pick it up.

9.  Cassandra Clare- Oh how I love her Shadowhunter World! I think it is so unique and amazing! If you love fantasy with paranormal creatures and romance, you need to read these books. She is also the queen of ending her series. Clockwork Princess is one of my all time favorite books and it mostly because of the ending. I highly recommend her epic books! She is amazing!

8. Stephanie Perkins- What can I say?? Her writing is beautiful! She is definitely the best at writing YA Romance. She knows how to create the perfect relationship. I love how she makes the setting of her books a huge part of the story. She makes you feel like you are actually there with the characters.

7. George RR Martin- Okay- he is a genius. No one is a storyteller like George RR Martin. His writing is so complex and beautiful but so easy to read. He makes you LOVE his characters! Even the horrible ones. You cannot put down his books and even though most of them are 1,000+ pages, they are really quick to read!

6. Laini Taylor- Anything this author writes is a YES for me! She is absolutely incredible.  Daughter of Smoke and Bone is one of my favorites series of all time. She creates very strong worlds, with amazing plots and complex characters. Highly, highly recommend reading her amazing books.

5. JK Rowling- Do I really need to explain?? How can you compare anything with JK Rowling?? She is JK Rowling. She is the creator of the most famous world ever! I love everything about her and Harry. They hold a very special place in my heart, and no one holds a candle to them. Ever.

4. Rainbow Rowell- Rainbow has the most beautiful, simplistic writing style. I LOVE her writing. She has such an amazing tone in her stories. I love how she writes dialogue! She is the queen of dialogue. My favorite book by her is Fangirl but Landline is a close second. Highly, highly recommend reading her books!

3. E.Lockhart- I have only read one book by this author, but I do consider her one of my favorite authors. Her writing is unique and amazing. I read We Were Liars last summer and I think about this book just about every day. I loved everything about this book. She incorporates a lot of metaphors and unique descriptions in her writing. I cannot wait to reread this book. It will definitely be on my summer book-et list!

2. Jennifer Niven- Okay- this is another author that I have only read one of her books. I recently read All The Bright Places and did a full review on it. This was her first YA Fiction book. This one was just so incredible! I loved so many quotes in her book. It captured my heart and I thought it was extremely well written. I cannot wait to see what she writes next for YA Fiction!

1. Sarah J. Maas- Okay. She is amazing. I think her Throne of Glass series is something very special. I love the world, plot, characters, everything she has created! I will read everything this author ever writes. I think she is brilliant. If you have only read the first book in the series, keep going. It only scratches the surface to this epic story. Love her so much. I cannot wait for her new book to come out next month.

Please let me know- what are some of your all time favorite authors?? I will talk to everyone soon! Happy Reading!!!

Top 10 Tuesday is a weekly bookish feature hosted by The Broke and The Bookish.

This weeks Top 10 list is: Top Ten Inspiring Quotes

I was very excited when I saw the topic for this week's top ten! I love quotes from books so much! It was very, very hard to narrow my favorite quotes down to ten. I have so many quotes from books that I love so dearly. I love it when an author inspires you, and makes you stop and think about what you are reading. I try to write my favorite quotes in journals and sometimes save them on Goodreads. I hope you enjoy them!! These all hold a very special place in my heart. When I see someone reading these books, I think about these wonderful words and wonder whether they see their beauty while they are reading them too.

#10 If I Stay by Gayle Forman: This is such a beautifully written story, beginning to end. I need to read some more from this author.

#9 Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix There are so, so many quotes from this series that are just so inpactful and special. I could write a whole book with all the amazing quotes, passages and scenes from this series. This is just one that I love so much.

#8 The Book Thief by Markus Zusak: This is one of my favorite books of all time and I love everything about it. I had to include something special from this fantastic novel.

#3 Landline by Rainbow Rowell I could have easily done a "Top Ten Rainbow Rowell Quotes". I love, love her writing so much. She has the most beautiful, simplistic writing style.

#2 Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare The Infernal Device series is such a great series! I love the characters so much! It has the BEST love triangle ever.

#1 Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare One more quote from this series! I could not just pick one! If you have read this series, you know the background behind these amazing words and it just tears at my heart. Just reading this quote makes me want to read this series all over again.

I hope some of these quotes inspires you to pick up one of these gems. What are some of your favorite quotes from books???

Theresa Says: Read It! ~ Since You've Been Gone by Morgan Matson

When it starts getting warmer outside, I start gravitating to contemporary books. Spring and Summer seems likes the perfect time to pick up a light, fluffy, feel-good book. Today, I am going to recommend you one of my all-time favorite contemporaries. If you have not read this one- you need to! It is such a special book and it just has great character development and a fantastic storyline.

Since You've Been Gone by Morgan Matson

449 pages

Published: May 6th, 2014 by Simon and Schuster

Goodreads Summary:  The Pre-Sloane Emily didn't go to parties, she barely talked to guys, she didn't do anything crazy. Enter Sloane, social tornado and the best kind of best friend—the one who yanks you out of your shell.
But right before what should have been an epic summer, Sloane just… disappears. No note. No calls. No texts. No Sloane. There’s just a random to-do list. On it, thirteen Sloane-selected-definitely-bizarre-tasks that Emily would never try… unless they could lead back to her best friend.
Apple Picking at Night? Okay, easy enough.
Dance until Dawn? Sure. Why not?

        Kiss a Stranger? Um...

Getting through Sloane’s list would mean a lot of firsts. But Emily has this whole unexpected summer ahead of her, and the help of Frank Porter (totally unexpected) to check things off. Who knows what she’ll find?

Go Skinny Dipping? Wait ... what?

Thoughts:

I was sold when I first read this summary. I could tell this was going to be a fantastic book. This is the only Morgan Matson book that I have read so far. I do plan to read her other books very soon.
Here are some things that I absolutely love about this book:
  • I could really relate with the main character Emily. We have a lot in common.
  • It makes you really want to try things that you never could see yourself doing!
  • It makes you want to step out of your comfort zone.
  • The author creates "Playlists" throughout the book, and it really helps create the mood and helps the character's personal taste shine through. I often stopped while I was reading to listen to some of the songs on the playlists just to help me live in the moment of the book.
  • I loved the writing style of this book! It is so fresh and fun!

I gave this book 5 out of 5 stars on Goodreads. This is a must-read for Spring and Summer time. I hope you give it a try! What are some of your favorite reads for the warmer weather?

Happy Reading!!

All The Bright Places by Jennifer Niven ~ Book Review

Publication: January 6, 2015 by Knopf

388 pages

Goodreads Summary:
Theodore Finch is fascinated by death, and he constantly thinks of ways he might kill himself. But each time, something good, no matter how small, stops him.

Violet Markey lives for the future, counting the days until graduation, when she can escape her Indiana town and her aching grief in the wake of her sister’s recent death.

When Finch and Violet meet on the ledge of the bell tower at school, it’s unclear who saves whom. And when they pair up on a project to discover the “natural wonders” of their state, both Finch and Violet make more important discoveries: It’s only with Violet that Finch can be himself—a weird, funny, live-out-loud guy who’s not such a freak after all. And it’s only with Finch that Violet can forget to count away the days and start living them. But as Violet’s world grows, Finch’s begins to shrink.

This is an intense, gripping novel perfect for fans of Jay Asher, Rainbow Rowell, John Green, Gayle Forman, and Jenny Downham from a talented new voice in YA, Jennifer Niven.

**This book does have triggers for suicide and mental illnesses. If this triggers you, you may not want to read this book.

Thoughts:
First of all, let it be known that no matter what I say about this book, I will never be able to do it justice. It is absolutely, without a doubt, the most beautiful book I have ever read (next to The Book Thief). It is now my favorite contemporary book of all time. Sorry Fangirl. I still love you and you still have a very special place in my heart.
I did not think I would like it as much as I would. While I was reading this book, I literally had to stop at times. I was crying so hard I could not continue reading the book. I have never been so emotional with any other book and I have read some tear jerkers.  There is so much I love about this book, so let's just get started.

My Favorite Things About This Book:
  • It has opened my mind on how I look at mental illnesses.  I am changed forever.
  • The way this book addresses depression, bullying, and tragedy. You can tell it is coming from a very genuine place.
  • I loved how this book has opened my mind to exploring the world.
    • I have learned that there are so many quirky, amazing places around me that I have yet to explore.
    • I now see that you do not need to go far to find those places.
  • The way the book is written. I have so many favorite quotes, scenes and passages. I have some of them listed below.
  • The characters! Finch and Violet- they were so amazing! The characters are so well developed and I loved to see their growth and changes throughout the book. The author made them so likable and they win your heart. Then, all of sudden your heart is crushed into a million pieces.
  • This book really makes you think and I know this book have made an everlasting impression on my perspective and my compassion for others.

My Favorite Quotes:

"When we're in the act of wandering, we need to be present, not watching it through the lens." ~Finch, page 97

"You are all the colors in one, at full brightness." ~Finch, page 172

"Your hope lies in accepting your life as it now lies before you, forever changed. If you can do that, the peace you seek will follow. Forever changed." ~Violet, page 348-349

"The thing I realize is that it's not what you take, it's what you leave." -Violet, page 376

Final Thoughts:

You definitely need to just read it yourself. On Goodreads, they say it is The Fault in Our Stars meets Eleanor and Park. I am not the biggest fan of Eleanor and Park, but I think this is the perfect depiction for this amazing story. It does have two quirky characters that have trouble fitting in with everyone else. The main characters Violet and Finch,  find who they truly are, through their friendship and love for each other (like Eleanor and Park). Sadly, they meet each other through tragic and unexpected circumstances (like The Fault in Our Stars).

I cannot wait to see the movie of this book! Violet is supposed to be played by Elle Fanning. This movie is going to be incredibly hard to watch. I am probably going to cry through the entire film. I hope it is going to be as beautiful as the book.
